Kanye West Regrets ‘Any Stress’ It Caused Kim Kardashian, and ‘Sway Had the Answer’

Kanye West, who now goes by the nickname Ye, has taken back some of his social media anger at ex-wife Kim Kardashian, as seen in an interview with “Good Morning America.”

In the “GMA” clip shared on ThursdayWest sat down with ABC News’ Linsey Davis and told her he felt sorry for Kardashian, weeks after she criticized the reality star, her family and ex-boyfriend Pete Davidson in since-deleted Instagram posts.

“This is the mother of my children, and I apologize for any stress it has caused even in my frustration that God is calling me to be stronger,” she told Davis. “But also, no one else is going to cause stress either.”

He added that he needs his ex “to be less stressed and at best mentally healthy, and as calm as possible to be able to raise those children.”

West and Kardashian share four young children. Kardashian filed for divorce in February 2021, and the couple have clashed recently over their ways of co-parenting.

Earlier in September, Ye posted screenshots of a text message exchange he had with Kardashian about their children’s education. According to the screenshots, West wanted her children to divide their time between the Sierra Canyon private school in Los Angeles and his newly opened Donda Academy.

“Idea Kids 2 days in Donda and 3 in Sierra Canyon OR 3 days in Donda and 2 in Sierra Canyon Including bus trips to educational places,” she suggested to Kardashian in a screenshot, which read, “This is co-parenting. ”

In the interview, West said that she now has some authority over her children’s upbringing, but “had to fight for it.” While speaking with Davis, Ye linked his co-parenting conflicts with Kardashian to his recent brand battles with clothing companies Gap and Adidas.

Last Thursday, West ended the partnership between Gap and his Yeezy brand. A notice from his legal team to top Gap figures alleged that the clothing brand “has abandoned its contractual obligations” from their original deal in June 2020.

“It was all kind of a contempt for the voice of something I co-created,” he said. “I co-created the children. I co-created the product at Adidas. I co-created the product at Gap. There is a parallel, and the parallel touches on discrimination.”

Ye also touched on how he and his legal team showed Adidas and the Gap “who’s the new boss in town,” and how he’s “absolutely” still considering a political career, years after running for president in 2020.

In the interview, Davis mentioned a viral talk Ye had with radio host Sway in 2013. When the media personality first suggested that West bring his Yeezy products directly to consumers, the rapper replied, “What, Sway? You don’t have the answers, man.” But a decade later, West has retracted the outburst about him.

“I’ll go ahead and say that Sway had the answer,” he admitted to Davis.

More of Davis’s full conversation with the “Bound 2” rapper can be seen on ABC News Live’s Thursday special “A Conversation With Ye: Linsey Davis Reporting,” airing at 7 p.m. ET on ABC and on Hulu at 8:30 p.m. ET.
