House Republicans Release Plan Showing Their ‘Commitment’ To Fucking America

The document is primarily a list of complaints against Democrats, with the usual attacks that McCarthy laid out in his introduction. Video, staged from the most attractive, well-stocked, uncrowded grocery store I’ve ever seen. Which was a bit of unintentional humor since one of the images they throw up when they talk about inflation is empty floor shelves.

“Violent crime is at record levels in our streets and neighborhoods. The border has become a national security crisis, with fentanyl killing our fellow citizens. Skyrocketing inflation has slashed paychecks and thrown us into a recession. And our kids have been left further behind thanks to school closures and lockdowns,” McCarthy says in the clip.

For the most part, the document is a bunch of platitudes: platitudes like “supporting our troops,” “bringing peace through force with our allies to counter rising global threats,” “recovering lost learning from the shutdown of schools” and “defend freedom of expression”. And, of course, “rigorous surveillance”. That’s a promise that you know they would keep if they got the majority because they’ve been talking about it for months and months. Retaliation is his favorite.

At a town hall-style presentation of the plan in Pittsburgh on Friday morning, McCarthy made some more specific promises. He said that the first bill that the House would introduce in the majority is cut the IRS budget. In other words, help the wealthy avoid paying taxes by keeping the IRS from coming after them.

For once, they are not talking about repeating Obamacare in their health policy word salad. He criticizes what they call the Democrats’ “drug takeover scheme.” Separately, Republicans have voted to repeal the cost savings the Inflation Reduction Act secured for seniors: the $2,000 annual cap on out-of-pocket costs and a cap on how much prescription drug manufacturers can raise prices, allowing Medicare negotiate lower drug prices and make insulin affordable for seniors and disabled people on Medicare.

Compared to the absolutely classic plan of the Republicans in 2009, McCarthy’s platform is a real dissertation. Compared to a current political agendahowever, they are not even Cliff’s notes.

But it looks pretty. A brilliant and deft gloss on the true Republican agenda of a national abortion ban, cuts to Social Security and Medicare, tax cuts for the wealthy, and revenge for Democrats’ efforts to restore democracy. Oh, and whatever this is.

So this.
